A Misdemeanor is any crime punishable by a fine no more than one thousand dollars or imprisonment in a county jail or correctional institution for no more than twelve months or a combination of both. Misdemeanor charges are brought against an individual in either State Court or Municipal Court. Typical misdemeanors include possession of marijuana less than an ounce, underage possession of alcohol, and DUIs.
